The exam comprises 100 objective-type multiple-choice questions, each carrying one mark, totaling 100 marks. The question paper is bilingual, presented in both Hindi and English. Candidates can choose their preferred medium while answering. The examination duration is one hour. The test covers four sections: English, Science, Biology, and General Awareness. The question standard matches the 10+2 level curriculum. Candidates are required to pass in all sections individually as well as achieve a qualifying score in aggregate. The Indian Navy reserves the right to determine the minimum passing marks for each section and overall aggregate. Negative marking is applicable – for each wrong answer, 0.25 marks (one-fourth of the question mark) will be deducted as penalty. Candidates must note that the Centre allocation for INET is at the discretion of the Indian Navy, and selected centres will be allotted during the application process. Special consideration is given to Sponsor Candidates and NCC 'C' Certificate Holders who are exempted from Stage I INET examination. These candidates, after proper verification of their certificates through CABS (Sponsorship) and DG NCC (NCC Certificates), will be directly issued call-up letters for Stage II recruitment process. Original certificates must be uploaded during the stage I application. STAGE II – Physical Fitness Test (PFT): Candidates who qualify Stage I INET will proceed to Stage II, which begins with the Physical Fitness Test. PFT is mandatory and conducted at the allocated centres. The physical standards that must be met are: 1.6 km run to be completed within 6 minutes 30 seconds, 20 squats (Uthak Baithak), 15 push-ups, and 15 bent-knee sit-ups. Candidates undertake PFT at their own risk. Proficiency in sports, swimming, and extra-curricular activities is desirable but not mandatory. STAGE II – Written Examination: Only candidates who qualify the Physical Fitness Test are eligible to appear in the Stage II written examination. This exam follows a similar pattern to Stage I with 100 objective-type questions, each carrying one mark. The question paper is bilingual (Hindi and English) and covers four sections: English, Science, Biology, and General Awareness. The examination standard remains at 10+2 level, with a duration of one hour. Candidates must pass in all sections individually and also achieve a qualifying aggregate score. Syllabus and sample papers are available on the official website. RECRUITMENT MEDICAL EXAMINATION: Candidates who qualify the Physical Fitness Test undergo comprehensive medical examination conducted by authorized military doctors. The examination follows medical standards prescribed in current regulations applicable at entry. Candidates qualifying this medical examination are considered for the merit list. Those found medically unfit have the option to appeal for review of findings at designated military hospitals allocated by the Indian Navy within five days maximum. Medical fitness certificates from hospitals other than designated Military Hospitals will not be accepted. PROVISIONAL SELECT LIST & MERIT: The Provisional Select List is prepared based on candidates' performance in Stage II written examination, subject to qualification in both Physical Fitness Test and Recruitment Medical Examination. Merit lists are prepared on a state-wise basis. In case of candidates with identical percentage scores exceeding required numbers, shortlisting is done based on Date of Birth (DOB), with earlier DOB receiving priority as they have fewer chances in future recruitment cycles. PRE-ENROLMENT MEDICALS: All selected candidates must undergo pre-enrolment medical formalities at INS Chilka. Induction is subject to qualifying these pre-enrolment medicals. Candidates failing pre-enrolment medical requirements will be rejected.
