Job Description
𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁
Punjab National Bank, one of India's oldest and largest public sector banks, has invited applications for the post of Local Bank Officer (LBO) under its Human Resource Planning drive for 2026-27. A total of 545 posts are open in the Junior Management Grade Scale-I (JMGS-I) cadre, spread across 17 states and union territories. This is not a fresher-level hiring drive; it is aimed at candidates who already carry some banking experience and wish to move into a permanent officer role with a defined pay structure and long-term career growth. Online registration began on 20 July 2026 and will remain open until 09 August 2026, so interested and eligible candidates should complete their applications well within this window.
𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀
The Local Bank Officer post places officers with prior banking exposure directly into branch-level responsibilities within a state they already know. Selected candidates will handle day-to-day banking operations, customer service, credit appraisal, cash management and compliance duties typical of a Scale-I officer at a public sector bank. Because the post carries a state-wise posting structure, an officer selected under a particular state's vacancy list will generally serve within that state's circles for an extended period, offering geographic stability many candidates value. The drive reflects the Bank's effort to strengthen its regional network with officers who already understand local banking practices and can communicate comfortably in the local language. Candidates should treat this as a serious mid-career opportunity rather than an entry-level government job, given the mandatory experience and language requirements attached to it.

Educational Qualification: A graduation degree in any discipline from a University or Institution recognised by the Government of India, completed on or before the closing date of registration.
Work Experience: A minimum of one year of post-qualification work experience in a Clerical or Officer cadre role at any Scheduled Commercial Bank or Regional Rural Bank listed under the Second Schedule of the RBI Act, 1934. This experience requirement is compulsory and cannot be waived.
Local Language: Candidates must be able to read, write and speak the local language notified for the state they are applying under. Those who did not study this language up to Class 10 or 12 will need to clear a Local Language Proficiency Test after selection.
Age Limit: Candidates must be between 20 and 30 years of age as on 01 July 2026. Age relaxation is available as per government norms — 5 years for SC/ST candidates, 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates, 10 years for PwBD candidates, and 5 years for eligible Ex-Servicemen and persons affected by the 1984 riots.
Selection Process
Selection for the Local Bank Officer post is carried out in stages designed to test knowledge, aptitude and suitability for the role, followed by a face-to-face assessment before final appointment.

Step 2: Screening of Applications — verification of eligibility, documents and category claims submitted at the time of registration.
Step 3: Local Language Proficiency Test — applicable only to candidates who have not studied the relevant state language up to Class 10 or 12; this stage is qualifying in nature.

Step 5: Final Merit and Document Verification — the final merit list is prepared state-wise and category-wise based on combined marks from the written test and interview, subject to qualifying the earlier stages and successful verification of original documents.

About Company
𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐢𝐬 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭
A confirmed officer-cadre position in a large public sector bank offers long-term job security, a structured pay progression and a full range of retirement and medical benefits that are difficult to match in most private-sector banking roles. For candidates who are already working in a bank's clerical or junior officer role, this recruitment represents a genuine step up in designation, responsibility and compensation, without requiring a complete change of industry. The state-restricted posting structure also means selected candidates can build a stable, long-term career close to their home region rather than facing frequent inter-state transfers early in their service.
