Probationary Officer (PO) 1500
𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 State Bank of India, the country's largest public sector lender, has invited online applications for the post of Probationary Officer for 2026 under Advertisement Number CRPD/PO/2026-27/09, opening 1500 posts for graduates from any academic stream. This is among the most awaited banking recruitment drives of the year, since the post does not demand any specific subject beyond a basic graduation degree. Selected candidates will be appointed as Probationary Officers in Junior Management Grade Scale-I and may be posted anywhere in India. The process includes a Preliminary Examination, a Main Examination, and a final stage covering a Psychometric Test, Group Exercise and Personal Interview, offering a stable, long-term banking career with structured promotions and nationwide exposure. 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 The recruitment is being carried out by the Central Recruitment and Promotion Department at SBI's Corporate Centre in Mumbai. Online registration began on 18 June 2026 and closes on 08 July 2026, giving eligible candidates roughly three weeks to apply and pay the fee. A Probationary Officer position is an entry point into SBI's leadership pipeline. Selected officers first complete a mandatory online banking course before joining, followed by a two-year probation period with continuous performance assessment, after which they are confirmed in regular service. The role covers core banking operations, customer service, credit appraisal, branch administration and supervisory duties, with scope to move into specialised areas like credit, treasury, international banking, risk and HR over time. Since SBI is government-owned and among the largest employers in Indian banking, the PO post is regarded as one of the most secure and prestigious careers for graduates, with strong pay, allowances and pension benefits.
