Indian Highways Management Company Limited, popularly known as IHMCL, is an organisation promoted jointly by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) along with various concessionaires and financial institutions. The company plays a central role in operating the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) network on national highways and in building Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) that make road travel safer, faster and more organised across the country. Although IHMCL is a non-government company, it follows the Industrial Dearness Allowance (IDA) pay structure that is common among many public sector-linked organisations. This recruitment drive has been announced to fill technical positions that will support the company's toll management and transport technology operations. For engineering graduates who want to work on large-scale digital infrastructure projects connected to India's highway network, this opening offers a meaningful career opportunity with steady growth prospects.

IHMCL has released an official notification inviting online applications for the position of Systems Engineer (ITS) on a direct recruitment basis. The role falls under the E-2 Grade with a pay scale of Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1,60,000 and is designed for young engineering graduates who wish to contribute to the digital and technological backbone of India's highway management system. Selected candidates will be involved in supporting, maintaining and improving systems related to toll collection technology and intelligent transport infrastructure. The recruitment is being conducted purely through an online process, and candidates are selected based on their performance in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). This makes the process transparent and merit-based, giving a fair opportunity to candidates from across the country. Since the posts carry an all-India service liability, applicants should be prepared to work in any location assigned by the company.

Selection Process
Selection for the post of Systems Engineer (ITS) will be based primarily on the candidate's valid GATE score from the year 2026 in the relevant discipline — Computer Science and Information Technology (CS), Electronics and Communications Engineering (EC), or Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA). The company has also reserved the right to call shortlisted candidates for a personal interview, depending on the number of applications received and the cut-off decided for each category. If a large number of applications are received, IHMCL may apply additional shortlisting methods to keep the interview process manageable. In case two or more candidates end up with the same GATE score within a category, the candidate who is older in age will be given preference in the final merit list.

India's highway network is expanding rapidly, and technologies like Electronic Toll Collection and Intelligent Transport Systems are becoming essential to keep this network efficient and safe. The Systems Engineer (ITS) role at IHMCL places selected candidates at the centre of this transformation, giving them a chance to work on technology that directly affects millions of road users every day. Because the recruitment is linked to GATE, it also gives serious engineering aspirants a practical use for their preparation beyond traditional PSU exams, opening a professional pathway into infrastructure technology rather than only core engineering or software roles.
